Guidance and Counselling B. A. Degree

 

The B. A. Degree in Guidance and Counselling, a degree completion programme, is designed for teachers, guidance counsellor or allied professionals who are diploma graduates and as such would already have the required foundation courses in Education.  The B. A. Degree in Guidance and Counselling requires a total of forty-two (42) credits for the Courses listed below (the foundation courses in Education having already been met.  On the recommendation of their Regional Director, Academic Dean or the President, students can receive credits for courses already taken at the Undergraduate level in another accredited institution.

 

The Courses required to attain the 42 credits are:

 

  • Biblical and Theological Perspectives of Counselling

  • Fundamentals of Guidance and Counselling

  • Advanced Psychology

  • Theory and Practice of Counselling

  • Counselling Issues Climate and Trends in the Caribbean

  • Research Methods

  • developmental Psychology

  • Career Counselling

  • Ethical Issues of Guidance and Counselling

  • Abnormal Psychology

  • Practicum I & II

  • Thesis (Research Proposal)

 

It is expected that teachers, nurses, guidance counsellors or allied professionals would take in the first year those courses which are “introductory”.  For candidates, practicum continues throughout the duration of the duration of the programme, since they are in work situations.  The flexibility of the ITLD mode allows teachers to take the courses at their convenience.
